Inclusion is one of our overarching themes in Lower School this year. The “Inclusion Starts with I” video that the company Accenture has openly distributed is a powerful tool in raising awareness for all of us. As a faculty, we have focused on leading by example and reflecting on our roles affecting inclusion in the Lower School.
In honor of Martin Luther King, Jr., the Lower School Student Council has opened up a dialogue among our students. Students have shared their dreams for our community and the world in the Lower School intersection. Dreams such as ending hunger, including others, making sure all people and animals have safe homes, and finding cures for Alzheimer’s and cancer are just a few examples.
I hope you will take a moment to stop and read the shared dreams. Our hope is that as a community, and as families, we will continue the discussion to raise our awareness. This discussion, coupled with tangible examples, is part of our responsibility to be role models for our children. As part of our Episcopal identity, we are called to value all people and treat all of God’s children with dignity, respect, and honor. Thank you for collaborating with us, and I welcome your thoughts and dialogue as we strive to grow.
