Shakespeare Monologue Competition

Jane Stephenson ’19 is the winner of the school round of the annual Shakespeare Monologue Competition and will advance to the community round in Dallas on February 24. Catherine Harris '19 was first runner-up and Grace Comtois '18 was second runner-up. Congratulations to all of our finalists.

The English-Speaking Union National Shakespeare Competition requires students to read, analyze, perform and recite Shakespearean monologues and sonnets in three qualifying stages: at the school, community and national levels. The competition begins in classrooms nationwide, culminating in school-wide competitions where students memorize and perform a monologue. The school competition winner advances to an ESU Branch Competition where students perform their monologue and a Shakespeare sonnet. The community winner advances to the National Competition held in New York City on April 23, where he/she will compete for cash prizes and the opportunity to attend a summer drama program. Approximately 2,500 teachers and 20,000 students in nearly 60 ESU Branch communities participate each year.
