Throughout the Lower School journey, students experience growing self-confidence and movement towards independent learning. As each year prepares them for future exploration, Lower School students experience rigorous and engaging curriculum to become fully prepared for the challenges of Middle School.

  • Grace, Grit and Growth

    As we support our students’ academic growth, the balance of supporting their character growth is an equally important goal.  As a school community, we are both blessed and thankful to have an amazing school counselor who is available to work with students from every division. Laura Dickinson is using Grace & Grit Boxes to work with 6th grade girls this year.

  • Time for Rest

    One challenge we all face is finding balance and enough time in the day to fit everything in. Overscheduling can happen so quickly and easily, it often is not a distinct issue until you are facing an exhausted child in tears and the end of a long and busy day. Many times the exhaustion surfaces during the homework time. At this point in the year, I have had a number of conversations with parents and teachers alike about how our children are dealing with day to day challenges and learning. A consistent theme keeps resurfacing: Our children are tired.

  • Developing Global Leaders

    The beginning of every school year is a fresh start and an opportunity to establish new “Hopes and Dreams” for each student and faculty member alike. As students and faculty set our yearly “Hopes and Dreams” (goals), I like to add a challenge for each classroom. This year our Lower School wide challenge is based on inclusion and looking beyond ourselves to help and learn about others. I’ve been meeting with classes and reading the book, What Does It Mean to Be Global? by Rana DiOrio. The devastation of Hurricane Harvey and Hurricane Irma have certainly made the topic of helping others more prevalent and meaningful.
