  • Senior Awarded the Leo C. Benavides Award for Outstanding Servant Leadership

Harrison Alexander '19 was awarded the Leo C. Benavides Award last night for his outstanding servant leadership throughout his high school career. Harrison has worked with Dr. Plocheck and Dr. West in pediatric dentistry, as well as with Dr. Kelly to aid young children who go through cleft lip and cleft palate surgeries. He's led service experiences on campus where students sew sutures on the lips of stuffed animals and learn about the experiences of children born with a cleft lip/palate. These stuffed animals are then given to children after their surgeries so they can have a friend who has the same suture lines that they do. He's also attended leadership conferences for young people who have gone through these surgeries and hopes to continue similar work at the University of Mississippi.
