Lower School

List of 6 items.

  • Choir

Students in grades 4-6 are offered the opportunity to participate in the LS Choir which meets outside of regular school hours. This activity concentrates on training students in choral singing.
  • Integrated Mathematics-Visual Arts Program

Students engage in additional, integrated learning experiences by which they further explore mathematical concepts and skills using the visual arts as a lens. Students learn about artists by viewing and discussing images of their work, and then create artifacts (painting, sketch, collage, etc.) in the spirit of the featured artist. By viewing their finished masterpieces, students discover, explore, and discuss the mathematics used and embedded in their art. This innovative approach to learning illuminates for students the connections between math and the visual arts, and thus the importance and relevance of learning mathematics.
  • Music

The Lower School music program includes learning how to read and play music on keyboards, recorders, guitars, Orff instruments, and hand bells. Music history and composers are studied. Students also create and perform original productions throughout the year in addition to traditional performance. Choir is offered to 4th, 5th, and 6th grade students. Lower School students attend music class 2 times per week.
