Early Childhood

Distinctive Features

List of 7 items.

  • Cross-Divisional Activities

Early Childhood students make relationships across campus to enhance their connectedness and learning, through attending Lower School programs, viewing art in the Upper School and partnering with Middle School and Second Grade reading buddies.
  • Daily Chapel

Children attend chapel services, which include prayer, songs and a children's lesson led by our Early Childhood and Lower School Chaplain.
  • Integrated, Literature-Based, Mathematics-Visual Arts Program

Children learn about artists by viewing and discussing images of their work. Through this process, students discover and explore the mathmatics embedded in or used by the artist in his/her works. The children also create an artifact (painting, sketch, collage, etc.) in the spirit of the week's artist.
  • Kelly Dillard Butterfly Garden

Throughout the year, during migratory patterns and as part of their science curriculum, children enjoy on-campus outings and picnics in the Butterfly Garden.
  • Parent Teacher Conferences

Early Childhood teachers consistently evaluate social, emotional and intellectual progress of their students. Parents are invited to meet with teachers twice a year to benchmark student progress, though parents are welcome to meet more frequently as needed.
  • Spanish

Students are enriched by weekly Spanish language classes. The curriculum is planned so students learn core vocabulary and basic sentence structure using verbs, colors, numbers, animals, places and food items through verbal interaction, musc, hands-on activities and books.
  • Special Events

Early Childhood hosts special events throughout the year to enrich the student and family experience, including a Thanksgiving Production, Donuts with Dad, Muffins with Mom and Field Day. Pre-K and Bridge K students also participate in on- and off-campus field trips.
