Service Learning

The April Focus was around Earth Day and how we can be Valuable Collaborators to help our planet.

Early Childhood classes learned about the life cycle of butterflies as they watched butterflies hatch before their eyes. Students released them in the Kelly Dillard Butterfly Garden.

The Lower School is focused on "investing in our planet" through a variety of activities leading up to, and on, Earth Day, Friday, April 22. Teachers have a choice board of developmentally appropriate Earth Day-related activities so students can graph, sort to recycle, play Earth Day Bingo, and make a pledge. Two custom garden boxes will be installed for Kindergarteners to tend throughout the year, named the Kinder Garden. Students will place the inaugural plants in the boxes on Earth Day. 

Lower School classes will also visit the Exploratorium to learn about the impact littering has on our planet, and make a “litter bug” out of recycled materials to highlight the lesson. Middle School Religion classes have been going on two-mile walks around campus, listening to sermons and cleaning up trash.
